CANBY CINEMA 8 THEATER
So anyone and everyone who has children with special needs, need to read this. I have been talking with the manager of Canby Cinema that will be opening up in October in regards to movies for Special needs kids and adults. If anyone has been on the Autism Society of America website, then you know that have a section that has information for Sensory friendly films. Well on there you will notice there is only Theaters around Oregon but non (that We know of) here in Oregon.
The Owner and Manager of The new theater being built here in Canby have agreed to and are working with me to have a movie once a month for all of the kids and adults that have sensory issues. For the ones that can not sit still or does not like loud noises then this is the place to watch your movies.We hope that families around the Portland Vancouver area will bring their special kids to enjoy a movie 2nd Saturday of every Month.
I know how hard it is to have your child sit for an hour in a half to 2 hours for a movie, it is pretty much impossible, right? We have the solution! Our kids will be able to get up and walk and dance as they watch the movie. The lights will also be turned up as well as the sound of the movie turned down. Wow that is going to be nice!!! Half way into the movie we are also going to turn the movie off for about 10 minutes so parents and kids can take a restroom break or just go get a snack from the snack bar (which there is a kids tray you can purchase). Then back to the movie for more dancing, walking and stretching as you watch the movie. Another great thing is that the movies will be on Saturdays at 10:00am. What makes that so nice is that it will not be open to the general public, so we don't have to worry about others. The kids will be safe and can not get out of the theater, NOW IS THAT GREAT!!!

I am so sorry, but unfortunately I have not hear from the Theater yet. As soon as I hear from them I will post. I am also going to be away the whole month of September so I am trying to get a confirmation on Septembers Movie as well. I am hoping to let you all know by the end of August at the latest ( I HOPE). If I do not hear anything from Linda about Septembers I will try.. We will be training with my sons Service Dog. I will be blogging daily during the 10 days of training so watch for that as well. Again I am sorry I have no answers about SSM yet.. Check back soon.

Canby Cinema 8 will be showing Ramona & Beezus on the 24th.
Remember that the doors open at 9:30 and the movie
Manager Linda has informed me that she is hoping to have information within
the next week for the August Showing.

Next Sensory Saturday movie is on the 26th of June. Movie being
shown is TOY STORY 3 in 3D.
I also want to apologize for not getting a summer schedule for those
who asked for one. I requested one but unfortunately never heard
back with it. When I get one I will post on here. Again I apologize for

I want to thank everyone who has attended SS at Canby Cinema. It has now
been 6 months since Sensory Saturday started and it seems to be growing every
month. I hope it continues to grow and gets bigger and bigger.
I have talked with a couple of other theaters about participating in having a
Sensory movie showing for kids in their area. Most that I have talked too have
been very positive about it and a couple have shot it down right there. I would
like to see more theaters through out the states but right now here in Oregon
make sensory movie showings available for more people.
I received word a couple of weeks ago that a theater has agreed to do a
Sensory Movie in Hood River Oregon. THAT IS AWESOME! That is a start, it
is a slow process and it does start out slow but over time (months) more and
more people will continue to come. Just make sure that the theater and the
manger and or owners are into it too help and accommodate the Sensory/special
needs community.
If anyone is interested in approaching a theater and needs assistance Please
contact me and I would be happy to help anyway I can. Sensory Movies are very
important to have available for the community that are unable to attend regular
movies. Our children deserves to have the opportunity too see what everyone
else gets to see and to have fun.

Just want to let everyone know that the next Sensory Saturday Movie is going to
be on the 29th of May. You will be enjoying the new Shrek movie in 3D.
I apologize to you for having to wait an extra week to see the movie. I
understand that the movie is released on the 21st, but unfortunately we need to
be patient and wait the extra week. SORRY!

Our next Sensory Saturday will be April 10th. We will be showing How To Train Your
Dragon in 3D. Show is at 10am and the doors open at 9:30am. We will be at the movie and again I
apologize for not being able to attend March SS. I am really looking forward to meeting all of
you I have not met yet.

So I have been in contact with Canby Cinema and they should let me know the
next date and movie. Am getting very excited about it, I am hoping that it will
be "How to train your dragon". Looks like such a great movie and my son would
like to see it as well. I am sure all the kids will love it.

Just want to let you all know that I am doing my best in trying to give you all
enough notice as possible for the next Sensory Movie.. Unfortunately I have not
been able to get a hold of Linda with Canby Cinema 8 to find out about the next
movie. I know that we originally planned for the 2nd Saturday of every month
but it hasn't worked out that way because of when the movies come out. So we
have been having the movies when we can. For March there is a movie coming out
called How to train my Dragon (I think) it looks like a really cut movie and I
think the kids would love it. It is to be released towards the end of the month
(March26th). If we do the SSM every 2nd Saturday of the month and no new
movies are released then Linda will get a earlier released movie to play. I would
love to hear from you all and get your opinion on when we should have the
movies...
Again, I am really sorry for the short notice of when the movies are. I am
doing my best at trying to stay in contact with the manager of the theater. It's
very difficult for me to plan SSM when I am not employed with the theater nor
get in contact with them. I will do my best at keeping you updated.
